WATCH: Colts owner Jim Irsay declined $3.2 billion offer for the purchase of the team

The Indianapolis Colts confirmed to the Indy Star Wednesday that owner Jim Irsay declined an offer of $3.2 billion for the purchase of the team recently.

The price tag dwarfs the $2.3 billion that the Carolina Panthers sold for last year and is more than double the cost of the Buffalo Bills’ sale price from 2014. The $3.2 billion would have been the most expensive sale of any North American sports franchise in history.

Irsay inherited the Colts from his father, being named General Manager of the team in 1984 shortly after the franchise moved from Baltimore to Indianapolis. He then became the full owner of the franchise after his father passed away in 1997.

The Colts said Wednesday that the team is not for sale.
