Colin Kaepernick is 889 days into being out of a NFL gig.
While he has a contract with Nike, Kaepernick is three years into life off the NFL field and Wednesday, the former 49ers quarterback tweeted a video that serves as his first public comments about his career since settling his collusion case with the league in February.
The tweet is of a 59-second long video of a workout, captioned “5am. 5 days a week. For 3 years. Still Ready.,” and echoes the sentiment Eric Reid shared about his former teammate and fellow activist when Reid tweeted in February, “He’s in the best shape of his life, and ready to help win a championship.”
Kaepernick’s case against the NFL hinged on the claimed that teams colluded to keep him unemployed following him being the first NFL player to kneel during the national anthem in the name of social and racial justice. Reid had a similar case versus the league but did end up in a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers last season after his time with the 49ers ended (and he’s now in a three-year contract with the NFC South team).
