Watch: Coleraine football fans pen catchy song for League Cup final

These Coleraine fans have penned a new song which they hope can carry the Bannsiders to League Cup glory.

Gordon Stratton and Mervyn McIntyre put together this catchy tune ahead of Saturday's big showdown with Crusaders.

Called 'Bannsiders', Gordon and Mervyn came up with the passionate lyrics, with Geoff Stewart playing guitar.

"Gordon asked me to be involved and he had the lyrics nearly done," Mervyn said.

"We brainstormed on Tuesday night for an hour and finished them."

Gordon added: "To be honest I had the idea to do it last year for the Irish Cup, but then we were beaten by Crusaders at the Oval which put those plans to rest for another year.

"I previously did a song for the our Irish Cup win against Cliftonville back in 2018 called 'Have you ever seen Coleraine?'.

"That song took off and there was a real buzz around the town. So this year I decided to ask Mervyn to help and Geoff Stewart, who is an absolute genius on the guitar. He also played in first song."

And the boys are confident their team will hit the right notes on Saturday night against Crusaders.

"This year it's Coleraine's result - and possibly the Irish Cup and League to follow," Gordon said.

Mervyn added: "The game will be a tight one, and weather could play a big part.

"We have big game players and I think we have enough to bring it home."

The lads are also adding a charity aspect to the song which they hope can raise awareness for the Community Rescue Service.

"With the momentum of the first song we thought it would be a great idea to incorporate the charity aspect into it," Gordon said.

"The Community Rescue Service was our choice as too many young lives are being lost to suicide all across Northern Ireland.

"We know we may not have the X-Factor when it comes to our singing, but with our lyrics and the comedy aspect to it, we think it works.

"And no one has a bigger laugh at it than us."
