Scotland's electronic scene has been thriving for years - Dumfries's Calvin Harris has evolved into a world-dominating pop beatmaker and Glasgow-based Rustie and the whole of the LuckyMe label crew have set the standard for pioneering electronic music. Last year, Chvrches became its latest success story; creating ebullient and soaring synth sounds, they ranked highly in the BBC Sound Of poll and toured with Depeche Mode before releasing their debut, The Bones of What You Believe, in September. "They are more robust and melodic than arty peers such as Grimes and Purity Ring – choruses are foregrounded, synthy jabs pummel Lauren Mayberry's vocals, beats drop from satisfying heights – but Mayberry's lyrics also carry a subversive twist of angst and obsession," wrote the Guardian's Ally Carnwath.
