Watch Christmas tree in George Square go up in timelapse video

Glasgow city centre got a festive sprucing up after the Christmas tree was built today.

The 40ft Sixty Spruce tree will take pride of place in the heart of George Square, which will be brought to life in a radiant display after the ceremonial Christmas lights switch on on November 17.

Glasgow City Council shared the timelapse video with the caption "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" – and they'll be putting the finishing touches on the tree with some decorations too.

George Square's big market follows a week later on Sunday, November 24 – and will be open throughout the festive period until Sunday, December 29.

Kids can slide down the vintage helter skelter, while adults can relax and enjoy traditional German beer and Glühwein at the charming handcrafted German bars - and everyone's welcome on the carousel.

Santa will also be paying a visit here to meet and hand out treats to little festive fun seekers - so watch out for the big man in red.
