If you’re not keen on the chintzy pop of Wham!’s Last Christmas and the Pogues’ Fairytale of New York is a little too whisky-soaked and frayed around the edges, then the Pretenders’ understated 2000 Miles could fill the festive gap in your record collection.

Remade for Christmas 2014, Chrissie Hynde took to the studio in Stockholm with Björn Yttling to rewire the 1983 hit while finishing up her recent solo album . “I think it captures the mood of the season perfectly as it gets cold in Sweden, reindeer wander the streets freely and the snow was coming down,” said Hynde.

Released on 15 December, she performs a brief spell of live dates this Christmas, with the Pretenders’ frontwoman playing songs from her illustrious back catalogue alongside tracks from her solo album Stockholm.
