On Friday, Oklahoma City point guard, Chris Paul, addressed the health crisis that is sweeping the country.
In a nearly two-and-a-half-minute video, Paul talked about the coronavirus, saying that he knows everyone is “trying to make sense of life and the crazy situation we have going on”.
He also added that he’s not trying to “tell anybody how to live their life”, instead he wanted to give “some hope and encouragement for those that are having a hard time”.
Paul posted the heartfelt message on his Instagram page, and it was then tweeted out by the Thunder account on Friday night.
“It’s a great opportunity for us all to step up and lead our families. The best thing that we all can do right now is try and be as selfless as possible. I think a lot of times we’re all like, ‘man I hope that I’m okay. Man, I hope that I’m good’, but this is a time where we’ve got to make sure that we’re all okay. And make sure that we’re all listening to our health officials in our communities and make sure that we’re trying to stay home as much as possible. And it’s not just about us each as an individual, it’s about us as a whole.”
Paul added that he knows it’s difficult, but to “keep others in mind”. He gave a shout out to doctors and healthcare workers, saying that we wanted to make sure their efforts do not go unnoticed.
He also addressed teachers, giving them some appreciation as his kids are now having to do schoolwork from home.
“Huge shoutout to the teachers out there. There’s been a lot of mornings here now trying to fulfill that role with my kids and just using this time as an opportunity to connect and reconnect. I think it gives us a lot of perspective as we’re all here, spending a lot more time doing things that we may not have done because we’re all usually so busy on the go.”
He also urged people to take the time to call their family, friends, and loved ones, finishing the video by saying that he was sending “much love from me and my family”.
As of this writing, the video already has more than 86,000 views on Twitter.
