Watch Chris Hoy crash 125mph racing car after terrifying throttle jam

This is the terrifying moment Scots cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy smashed into a barrier after losing control of his racing car.

The Edinburgh-born Olympic champion was competing in a 210bhp Caterham Seven car at the iconic Silverstone circuit when the crash took place.

It's thought that the throttle on his racing car was stuck fully open - just as the cycling hero hit 125mph on the track.

Thankfully the 43-year-old was left unscathed after careering off the course, ploughing through gravel and smashing into a safety barrier.

Sharing a video of the shock incident on Instagram , Sir Chris wrote: "When the throttle pedal sticks fully open going into the fastest corner on the track..."

He added: "All ok though, scary experience to feel the car keep pushing on towards the wall."

Fans of the sportsman were quick to comment on the video after his near-death experience - which has been viewed over 5000 times.

One follower wrote: "That doesn’t look good! Glad to hear you’re ok."

And another said: "Blimey! Gravel did its job well there. Glad it wasn't any worse!"
