Watch chilling moment robber points gun at shop worker's neck

This is the chilling moment an armed robber pointed his handgun at a shop worker as he raided a Co-op store near Bristol.

Avon and Somerset police released a short CCTV clip after Jimmy Young was jailed for 13 years at Bristol Crown Court, on Friday (December 18).

In the footage, Young is seen entering a store room, wearing a mask and baseball cap, and carrying a gun. In the next clip, he has two hands around the worker's neck.

An impact statement from the victim was read out in court, in which she described now struggling to sleep and feeling uneasy returning to work.

Young carried out copycat raids at stores in Midsomer Norton and Timsbury - escaping with more than £11,000.

Bristol Crown Court heard staff were left terrified by both incidents, which Young carried out to pay off a drug debt.

Though the weapon has not been recovered, Young claims it was simply a BB gun.

The 46-year-old, of Paulton, pleaded guilty to: five charges of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence; two robberies, and taking two vehicles without consent.

Judge William Hart classified Young as a dangerous offender, at risk of causing serious harm to members of the public.

He handed him an 18-year extended sentence, comprising of 13 years' prison and five years' extended licence.

The judge told Young: "The impact on victims in this sort of offence is easy to imagine.

"It had a dramatic offence on them."

Giles Nelson, prosecuting, said Young used a mobility car to drive taken without consent to drive to the Co-op in Fosse Way, Midsomer Norton, on July 21.

After walking in through the back he entered an office and held a handgun to the head of a staff member, telling her if she put money into a bag she would not get hurt.
