WATCH: Chiefs TE Jody Fortson does his best Randy Moss impression

During the preseason finale against the Green Bay Packers, there were a few standout performances from players trying to make the Kansas City Chiefs 53-man roster. Of the many who signed with the Chiefs following the 2019 NFL draft, one stood out above the rest with his performance.

Jody “Joe” Fortson Jr. was a receiver out of Valdosta State and the Chiefs brought him in with the intention to convert him to a TE. After a few weeks, he began practicing more with the receivers. His role seems to be that of a receiver or a move tight end moving forward.

Several of the top plays during preseason Week 4 belong to Fortson, including one of the Chiefs’ two touchdown receptions and a forced fumble on a punt return. Neither of those plays was more impressive than his first catch of the night, however.

Fortson raced down the sideline with tight coverage from undrafted rookie cornerback Ka’Dar Hollman. He wasn’t open when Kyle Shurmur threw him the ball, but it didn’t matter. Fortson jumped up over the corner and safety that came overtop to pluck the ball right out of the air. He used his 6-feet-6 and 230-pound size to his advantage. He elevated and pulled down the contested pass just like Hall of Fame wideout Randy Moss would. The play drew some chirping from Fortson, but really after a play like that, I think you’re allowed to give your opponent a hard time.
