WATCH: Chiefs set to sign Matt Moore as new backup quarterback

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to sign Matt Moore as their new backup quarterback after Chad Henne fractured his ankle in Saturday’s preseason game versus the San Francisco 49ers.

Henne will undergo surgery on the fractured ankle, his injury impacts an already-young quarterback room in KC. Behind reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes — a mere 23-year-old who enters his sophomore season in the league — the Chiefs have 22-year-old rookie free agent Kyle Shurmur and 23-year-old Chase Litton, who was signed last season as a free agent, then later added to the practice squad and then resigned to a reserve/future contract in January 2019.

Moore, 35, brings 11 seasons of NFL experience to the Chiefs. He was reportedly considered as an option at backup in 2017 when Kansas City signed Henne instead. While Moore did not end up in the NFL last season, he most recently was with the Miami Dolphins in 2017 (finishing a seven-season stint) and was with the Carolina Panthers for four seasons before that.
