The Chiefs posted a highlight-filled thank you video for recently-retired LB Derrick Johnson. As Johnson says, the Chiefs rolled out the red carpet for him in retirement. You can see what that day looked like for Johnson in the video posted above.
You’ll see Johnson speak to Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt on the phone, Andy Reid will chat with him for a bit and he gets to go through and meet the new defensive coaching staff. Johnson even reminisces about his time in Kansas City and what it was like to walk out of that tunnel and hear the crowd at Arrowhead Stadium.
While Chiefs fans might be anxiously hoping that Johnson will return to the Chiefs as a coach, from the sounds of the video that won’t be happening any time soon. With a newborn son and four other boys, he’ll have his hands full for the next several years.
Johnson wasn’t expecting to speak to the players at the Chiefs’ facilities, but he ended up giving a pretty inspirational speech that is definitely worth your time.
“It’s a good time to be a Chief,” Johnson said.
