WATCH: Chiefs RB Damien Williams turns on jets on 62-yard touchdown

Chiefs running back Damien Williams is out here to remind everyone who the starter is in Kansas City.

On just the third offensive play of the game, Williams got loose for a huge touchdown reception. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes hit Williams on a wheel route and then Williams took care of the rest, juking a defender out of his shoes and galloping 62 yards for the score. He really showcased his speed and catching ability here.

This was the first big action we’ve seen from Williams during this preseason. He had a few carries last week but hadn’t seen too much action yet. Take a look at the play down below:

Williams dealt with a hamstring injury that kept him out of the majority of training camp. He had been named the starter by Eric Bieniemy, but without seeing much action early on, there were questions about whether he’d retain the role. There are likely not a lot of questions about that anymore, because he is looking healthy and very capable in this play.

Expect to see a lot more from Williams in the passing game this season. He was a valuable asset to the passing game when he took over in 2019.
