WATCH: Chiefs RB Damien Williams explodes for 91-yard rushing touchdown

Kansas City Chiefs running back Damien Williams is starting his campaign to be the top option at running back.

About halfway through the third quarter, Williams exploded for a long touchdown run. The play went for 91 yards and according to Chiefs’ Public Relations, it’s a career-long for Williams, the second-longest play of the season and it ties Jamaal Charles for the longest rushing touchdown in franchise history.

The play was perfectly blocked by the interior of the offensive line, walling off a huge rushing lane for Williams. After the lane was cleared, Williams made two defenders miss and hit the turbo button to take it all the way for a touchdown, giving the Chiefs the lead.

The running game hasn’t been great for the Chiefs this season and they’ve really needed someone to give it a spark. Williams looks like he could potentially be the guy to do that and I’d like to see him get some more opportunities moving forward. Kansas City needs to ride the hot hand in the running game and right now Williams is that guy.

The best part about this play is how Tyreek Hill sprints from behind to catch up to the play and cut off the closest defender in the process. Again, it’s just another moment where Hill’s game-breaking speed has really been able to help the Chiefs even if the play doesn’t go to him.
