WATCH: Chiefs players in weight room during Phase 2 of offseason program

The Kansas City Chiefs had a total of 81 players show up to Phase 2 of the offseason workout program on Monday. That’s nearly the entire 90-man offseason roster and more than most teams had present for the start of this voluntary phase.

On Tuesday evening, the Chiefs’ social media team posted a quick tease across team social media channels, which showed a video of the players at work during Phase 2. Andy Reid explained that the majority of the work they’d be doing in this phase was strength and conditioning training in the weight room. It makes sense as they gear up for Phase 3 and Organized Team Activities (OTAs).

Here’s a look at some of the players getting in a workout in the weight room:

You’ll notice that team leaders are in the building with Patrick Mahomes, Tyrann Mathieu and Travis Kelce all in the video. Mathieu being present is certainly interesting given recent speculation surrounding an extension and the voluntary nature of these workouts. The quarterbacks all seem to be around with Chad Henne and Shane Buechele also spotted in the video. There’s plenty of defenders present and lifting with Tershawn Wharton, Derrick Nnadi, Demone Harris and Mike Danna all accounted for. Much to the delight of members of Chiefs Kingdom, Lucas Niang is spotted working on his upper body.

Another thing you’ll notice in the video is that you don’t see big groups of players in the facility working out at the same time. The groups of players working out are staggered and limited due to the NFL’s COVID-19 policies. Just because your favorite player wasn’t spotted in this video, doesn’t necessarily mean they’re among the players that are absent from this phase.
