WATCH: Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo mic’d up at training camp

It’s always enjoyable to see a master at work.

Kansas City Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo is a masterful teacher and an unmatched presence on the football field in Kansas City. So it makes perfect sense for the team to feature Spags during their latest mic’d up segment.

It starts off with a fun clip between Spags and the defensive line group, with Chris Jones shadowboxing with his defensive coordinator.

“Oh man, I’ll tell you what,” Spags exclaimed to Jones. “I’m going to get you in the gym one day and we’re going to be boxing. You and me 95.”

You get to see Spags impart knowledge, not only on his players but with some of the interns on the Chiefs’ coaching staff for training camp. You get to see the energy that he brings to practice and positive encouragement for some of his players.

We also get to hear some of Spags’ thoughts on the Chiefs’ star QB Patrick Mahomes.

“Patrick looking around to throw it in 7-on-7, that’s a good thing right,” Spags asked rhetorically. “Nah, he’s amazing. I’m glad he’s on our side.”

Getting to see Spags celebrate and provide some coaching to Juan Thornhill after he grabbed a diving interception was also a pretty interesting moment. He encouraged the third-year DB to not hesitate when the ball was in his hands.

He also has a new unique nickname for Tyrann Mathieu, “The Pied Piper.” Why? Because everyone on the defense follows Mathieu’s lead.

Be sure to watch the full video of Spags while he’s mic’d up at training camp at the top of the page.
