WATCH: Chicago Cubs to hire David Ross as manager

The Chicago Cubs didn’t have to go far to find their next manager.

USA TODAY Sports’ Bob Nightengale is reporting that David Ross, former Cubs catcher and World Series hero, is set to take over in Chicago.

Ross does not have any coaching or managing experience but has worked in the Cubs’ front office as a special assistant in baseball operations since January 2017.

Ross put a bow on his 15-year playing career following the 2016 World Series, in which he hit a Game 7 home run to help the Cubs seal the deal.

He takes over for his former manager, Joe Maddon, who was fired after five years with the club.
