WATCH: Chargers place Melvin Gordon on reserve/did not report list

The Los Angeles Chargers placed Melvin Gordon on the reserve/did not report list Wednesday and general manager Tom Telesco said that the team is ready to go without him, indicating that the running back’s holdout likely won’t end soon.

“I’m not naive: I know we’re better with Melvin Gordon,” Telesco said, per Eric Williams of ESPN. “But we’ve got a strong group of guys that are here, and it’s their time to work and get ready to go.”

Gordon threatened through his agent to ask for a trade if he did not receive a contract extension by the beginning of camp. As Telesco confirmed Wednesday, the Chargers did offer Gordon a contract but it is one that he and his agent reportedly call “disrespectful.”

In the final year of his rookie contract, Gordon will make $5.6 million this year. He is tied for second in the NFL in total touchdowns and ranks fourth in yards from scrimmage.
