WATCH: Chargers coach says Melvin Gordon is ‘our starter’ when he returns

Melvin Gordon is back with the Chargers, he ended his holdout and reported to the team for the first time in two months Thursday.

Head coach Anthony Lynn held a previously-unscheduled press conference following Gordon’s arrival to team facilities and explained that Gordon will still be LA’s starter when he is back in action (he is not eligible to play in the team’s Week 4 game Sunday versus the Miami Dolphins (0-3)).

“He’s our starter, no doubt,” Lynn said when he met with the media. “He was our starter for a reason… as soon as Melvin’s ready, he’ll go back. He’ll go back to number one.”

Lynn also said that both Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson will continue to have roles in the Chargers offense once Gordon returns. The pair as impressed in filling the two-time Pro Bowler’s absence. Ekeler has 368 total yards from scrimmage and has four touchdowns in three games, Jackson averages 7.9 yards per carry.

Gordon rushed for 885 yards last season with 10 rushing TDs and four receiving touchdowns. He will be eligible to play in the Chargers (1-2) game versus the Denver Broncos (0-3) in Week 5.
