Watch Celtic show coronavirus solidarity as club anthem broadcast alongside European nations

Club anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone' boomed out around an empty Celtic Park as the club showed solidarity with those affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

At 8:45am Central European Time - 7:45am in the UK - a host of broadcasters from across the continent played the Gerry and the Pacemakers tune, which has become a terrace anthem for Celtic fans.

The song has a close association with football, most notably Liverpool who have included the title on their club badge. Other clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, FC Twente and PAOK.

BBC Radio 1 and 2 took part in the simultaneous broadcast while stations from Belgium, Austria, Spain, Finland and many other European nations also joined in.

The idea was dreamed up by Dutch radio host Sander Hoogendoorn of 3FM who wanted to choose a song that would send a message to those in the continent struggling in the crisis such as the sick or strained health workers.

This morning the song was played over the tannoy at an empty Celtic Park, and was broadcast live to fans on Facebook.

The song was accompanied by a montage of Celtic fans signing it, while the famous 'disco lights' pulsed in time to the famous tune.

In total more than 150 radio stations across Europe played the song
