CC Sabathia tweeted his goodbye to baseball Monday morning, marking the end of his 19-year Major League career. In the note, the pitcher says he’s thankful to have been on this journey with every teammate he’s had.
Sabathia spent the first eight years of his career with the Cleveland Indians, winning the AL Cy Young Award in 2007. After a brief stop in Milwaukee in 2008, the lefty went to the New York Yankees in 2009, where he would play the rest of his career.
He announced in February that 2019 would be his final season, saying he was ready to spend more time with his family as his kids get older.
Sabathia retires with a World Series ring, six all-star appearances, and a 3.74 ERA.
