After they punted on their first drive, Miami’s defense took the field for the first time against rookie quarterback Ian Book.
On just his second pass attempt, Dolphins linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel was able to tip the ball into cornerback Nik Needham’s hands. Needham was able to outrun New Orleans’ offense on his way to end the end zone to give Miami a 7-0 lead less than five minutes into the game.
The Dolphins defense has had the ability to get after quarterbacks and force them into making mistakes frequently. They did a good job of doing exactly that on their first drive.
