WATCH: Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury explains early-morning routine

Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury starts his day very early. No one beats him to the office at the team’s headquarters. He is there by 4:30 a.m. every day.

He starts his day with a two-hour workout. He doesn’t drink coffee, going with pre-workout instead.

As he explains to Arizona Republic reporter Bob McManaman, he gets a lot of ideas while he works out. It isn’t to clear his head before he can start working.

“A lot of the thinking goes on while I’m working out,” he said. “It’s kind of a quiet time so I can get my thoughts in order for the day. I have thoughts on what we’re doing that day, how we are going to script practice, play thoughts. It’s just a good alone time. In the weight room or on the treadmill, I can do a lot of thinking.”

When he gets ideas, he knows he will not remember it long.

“I usually write it down,” he said. “Right after in the locker room, I’ll get in there and write it down, or sometimes I’ll just jog in there and write it down (during my workout) because I’m not one of those who can retain it.”
