Shoppers at one very busy supermarket in Cork were shocked to see a car burst into flames this morning.
The incident happened at the Lidl car-park in Ballincollig shortly before 11am - eye-witness Mark O'Flynn told CorkBeo that he spotted dense smoke coming from under the bonnet of the car and raised the alarm.
"I arrived with my partner and we saw that there was smoke coming from the car," said Mark.
"I alerted a member of staff, he told the manager who came out with a fire extinguisher but we couldn't find the owner and the smoke was really starting to take hold.
"We were worried about it going up, I got on to the fire brigade and they arrived with the guards very quickly and they dealt with it, they were very good now I have to say."
Mark said the store was not very busy at the time and the staff acted quickly to get people evacuated and back a safe distance as there were fears that the petrol tank in the car could go up at any time.
"There was nobody injured, it was lucky really as the fire spread very quickly," he said.
