WATCH: Can Patrick Mahomes get any better in 2019?

Patrick Mahomes was unstoppable in his first season as a starter. The Kansas City Chiefs offense was endlessly explosive — and at times, they had to be, because their defense made opposing offenses look brilliant. With Kansas City looking to maintain its offensive production, it’s going to need Mahomes to have yet another excellent year.

But it’s fair to wonder: Can he get any better than he was last year?

In 2018, he threw for 5,097 yards, 50 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in a year that earned him the NFL MVP. He’s 23 years old and has started just 18 games — it’s easy to imagine he can only go up from here. And yet, the Chiefs’ supporting cast may look weaker in 2019 without Kareem Hunt, who got cut after appearing in a video where he kicked a woman. Kansas City may also lose Tyreek Hill, who is entrenched in a child abuse probe that may jeopardize his status in the NFL.

Mahomes may encounter some growing pains.
