WATCH: Cal women’s coach Lindsay Gottlieb makes history joining the Cavs as assistant coach

In a historic hire for the Cleveland Cavaliers, former Cal women’s basketball coach Lindsay Gottlieb is joining the Cavs as an assistant coach, making her the first women’s college head coach recruited to join an NBA coaching staff.

Gottlieb led the Golden Bears to the NCAA tournament seven times over her eight years at the helm and coached Cal to its first-ever Final Four appearance in 2013. She also produced six of the program’s eight WNBA draftees.

Per an ESPN report, she is expected to hold a role similar in stature to Nancy Lieberman’s with the Sacramento Kings and Becky Hammon’s with the San Antonio Spurs.
