Watch: Bristol City's new state-of-the-art training ground come to life

As Bristol City progress on the pitch through Dean Holden, work continues to enhance the club's infrastructure with the Robins releasing a new video of work at their training facility at Failand.

The project has been two years in the making after plans were approved by North Somerset Council in September 2018 and the complex is scheduled to open in Spring 2021.

Located next to the current training pitches, the site will bring together the club’s academy and senior team for the first time and will include a floodlit showpitch, capable of hosting the club’s Under-18 and Under-23 matches, two other full-size pitches and two further training areas.

"We are delighted how it’s going and we are on track to move in by early Spring next year," CEO Mark Ashton said.

"Despite COVID-19 restrictions and adverse weather Beard [construction company] and MJ Abbott [who work on the pitches] are making steady progress.

"The pitches are almost ‘stitched’ and with the floodlights up and windows in the building you can really see it all coming together.

"The fact that the players can see that progress every day when they come into training is a real boost."

The facility will also encompass a gym, changing rooms, medical, rehabilitation and performance facilities and office space, as well as education and welfare facilities for City’s young players.

It was telling that when new contracts were announced last week for academy graduates Max O'Leary and Zak Vyner plus Taylor Moore, the accompanying pictures were taken on the new "showpitch".

With the academy joining the first-team in using the same facility at Failand, the plan is to further cement the pathway through the age ranks and into the first-team.

When asked about City's new training ground last week, owner Steve Lansdown said: "It's a major part of what we're about.

"The training ground is where the players spend the majority of their time, it's their home, that's where the family culture is built up."
