Vanderbilt beat Michigan, 8-2, on Wednesday to win the 2019 College World Serie.
But the real winners are a charity of Commodores pitcher Tyler Brown’s choice and his family.
The story that built Brown into the pitcher and person he is caught the attention of former Poison front man Bret Michaels, who tweeted after Vandy won that he would donate $10,000 to a charity of Brown’s choosing in the name of Brown’s one-year-old daughter, who is living with Down Syndrome.
Brown lost his mother at an early age, then was adopted as his birth father was absent. In high school, the now-All-SEC pitcher blew out his arm and had to have Tommy John surgery, which caused him to lose interest from many colleges.
After finding his way on to Vandy’s roster, Brown’s girlfriend gave birth to his daughter and the young parents found out Isabella had Down Syndrome.
Through it all, the athlete developed his talent and contributed to the Vanderbilt program’s success, while also being a proactive father. A story worth a $10,000 donation no doubt.
