Watch: Brass band recreates Wallace & Gromit theme tune to bring joy to sick children

A brass band has shared a rendition of the iconic Wallace & Gromit theme tune to bring joy to sick children and staff at Bristol Children’s Hospital.

Working in isolation, members of the City of Bristol Brass Band have used their imagination to produce their own version of the classic song, with plenty of Aardman characters featuring in the background.

Band chairman Steve Ellis contacted Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal, the dedicated charity for the Bristol Children’s Hospital, to see if the uplifting rendition could help raise awareness of the challenges facing sick children across the South West and to put a smile on the faces of those in need.

The charity has now arranged for the video to be distributed to all patients and staff in the Women’s and Children’s Division of the hospital.

Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal funds and operates key services to support Bristol Children’s Hospital, but with fundraising events cancelled up and down the country and the Gromit Unleashed Shop closed, the charity has seen its income streams plummet.

The coronavirus pandemic has put huge demand on its services, particularly the work of the family support workers and The Grand Appeal’s three family accommodation buildings - Paul’s House, Grand Appeal House and Cots for Tots House.

As the dedicated charity for Bristol Children’s Hospital, Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal runs a multi-million-pound portfolio of investment in partnership with the children’s hospital and its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St Michael’s Hospital, Bristol.

Independently, The Grand Appeal runs three family accommodation facilities and employs over 20 specialist support staff who work on the ground in the hospital to ensure every aspect of hospital life is centred on the wellbeing of the young patients and their families.

It also works with the hospital to create a child-friendly environment and programme of arts, music and play therapies to ensure the very best patient experience.
