Watch bizarre Nikola Katic own goal as Rangers loanee's unlucky volley beats dumbfounded Hajduk Split keeper

Rangers defender Nikola Katic was left with egg on his face as he skewed in a bizarre own goal to cost Hajduk Split a win against Lokomotiva.

Katic is rebuilding his career in his homeland after an injury-hit 18 months at Rangers.

He missed the entire 2020-21 season and Steven Gerrard decided to send him out on loan in the summer to play regular football and get back to his best.

He has been a regular for the Croatian title-chasers, missing just one of their last seven games and he was named in the starting XI to face Lokomotiva on Saturday.

But a bizarre game, which featured two own-goals and a controversial penalty, dented their title chances.

The big moment came late on when a cross was swung in from the right by full-back Branimir Cipetic.

Keeper Danijel Subasic looked set to deal with it after a scramble in the box.

But with his side leading 3-2, Katic stuck a leg out and sent it looping over his own keeper.

The ball could have gone anywhere but it ended up in the back of the net and Split had to settle for a point with the unlucky Katic left with his head in his hands.
