Watch: Bizarre moment Iceland worker whips customer while yelling 'empty your bag' at north London supermarket

This is the bizarre moment an Iceland worker appeared to whip a shopper while yelling “empty your bag” at a London store.

One onlooker filmed the ordeal at the self-service tills at the Iceland supermarket in Chapel Market, Islington.

During the 45-second clip shared on X, a male employee strikes a female customer with an object.

He can then be heard yelling at the woman to empty the contents of her shopping bag and he proceeds to hit her.

The enraged woman then responds: “Oh my God that is assault. I am phoning the police. Can you phone the police please?”

After the man continues to whack the customer, the woman furiously replies: “Who the f*** do you think you are?

“My kid’s outside waiting to go to school. How dare you. Who the hell do you think you are hitting a customer in a shop?”

The man then accuses the woman of shoplifting as she proceeds towards the shop’s exit, to which she says: “I don’t really come in here. I go to Waitrose you mug.”

He also claimed that this was not the first time he had caught her, according to the UK News In Pictures press agency.

While on speaking to a 999 controller, the woman is filmed asking the man for his name but he told her to “f*** off”.

Metropolitan Police officers were later spotted arriving at the scene in north London and talking to the man.

A spokesperson for the Met said: “Police were called at 08.07hrs on Wednesday, 15 October to reports of shoplifting at a supermarket on Chapel Market, Islington.

“Subsequently, we received a call from a member of the public claiming they had been assaulted.

“Nothing was reported stolen and no arrests have been made.

“Enquiries continue. If you have any information that could help police please contact 101 quoting CAD 1378/15OCT.”

The Standard has contacted Iceland for comment.
