Watch: Belfast P7 pupils given Oscars-themed farewell over three days of red carpet applause

Emotions were running high at Lough View Integrated Primary, as the P7 pupils said farewell to the school for the final time.

Every other years' pupils had enjoyed a celebration together as they moved on to a different chapter of their education.

But with Covid-19 affecting all aspects of life, this year's 61 primary school leavers were faced with feeling a little flat.

However the teachers at Lough View, Belfast, had different ideas.

They decided on a red carpet, Oscars-themed farewell, with an honour guard of teachers and staff cheering on their special charges.

Teacher Fiona McGoldrick, said: "Every child and family in our school is special to us. In Lough View IPS we couldn’t let our Year 7 children leave without showing them how proud we are of all their achievements.

"So our Year 7 teacher, Jennifer Fuller, decided we should have an Oscars themed send off. Each child was invited back to school with their family, where they collected their VIP pass and watched a film of all the staff wishing them well.

"After collecting their Records of Achievement, the children walked down the red carpet, where the staff were all lined up to applaud them.

"As a final farewell to Lough View, they placed their star on the Lough View Wall of Fame.

"Each child received a leaver’s hoodie, a personalised pen and a bespoke Lough View picture.

"Due to social distancing measures it took three days for all 61 children to go through, but it was worth it as the reaction from the children and their families was really special."
