Watch awkward education secretary dodging MATHS question from 10-year-old boy

This footage shows the awkward moment Education Secretary Nicky Morgan dodged a maths question from a 10-year-old boy.

Leon asked Morgan the cube root of 125 during a children's newspaper interview on Sky News.

The answer is five.

Morgan replied that the question was "one that I might just have to go away and work out."

"I think politicians who answer maths questions or spelling questions on air normally come a cropper."

But plucky Leon "pressed" Morgan for an answer - when she continued to obfuscate.

The youngster then dragged Ms Morgan over the coals, Jeremy Paxman-style, on the subject of literacy and promoting the love of books among children.

Leon asked how this could happen if libraries continued to be shut down - and unhappy with her reponse he said: "I don't think you've actually answered the question.

"Are the government going to take steps or are they not?"

Ms Morgan said the Government was reminding local councils "that it is their duty to provide libraries which are, obviously, where people can borrow books for free which is the critical thing and, as education secretary, I want there to be libraries in schools."

She said an independent report would be published shortly "on how important libraries are."

The incident comes after Chancellor George Osborne failed to answer a maths question posed to him by a seven-year-old child from the same kids' newspaper, First News earlier this year.

Square and cube roots in maths are usually learned by children early on in their secondary school education, the BBC reports.
