Watch astonishing video of fireball falling out of the sky

The incredible moment a fireball appears to crash down from the sky has been captured by a doorbell security camera.

The phenomenon was filmed in Derby around 11.35pm on Monday. 3 February.

Gary Rogers was in bed when his phone pinged with a notification.

The message was from the app connected to his front doorbell camera alerting him to movement outside his house, report Derbyshire Live.

The 52-year-old was shocked when he checked the footage and discovered the alert had been set off by a fireball lighting up the sky.

He said: “I was sitting in bed about to go to sleep and my phone pinged. I couldn’t believe it.

“I thought it was a firework at first, but I listened to the sound and you couldn’t hear any noise.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it. I thought, ‘what is that?’

“Some of my friends said it looked like a meteor.

“I was really surprised. I have never seen a meteor before, only shooting stars.

“I thought it’s definitely not a firework, I had never seen a firework light up the horizon like that.”

A meteor is a space rock that falls out of the sky. As it approaches Earth, the resistance, or drag, of the air on the rock makes it extremely hot, which creates a "shooting star."

That bright streak is not actually the rock, but rather the glowing hot air as the hot rock zips through the atmosphere.

Upon hitting the Earth's surface it becomes a meteor.
