The shocking video shows the black Volkswagen travelling at least 25mph through deep water on Newhaven Road.

As the car speeds through the excess rain water ,the whole back panel of the vehicle with the registration plate flies off into the water as the car continues to drive.

The car is travelling so fast it's unclear if the driver has noticed that half of his car has fallen off.

The road remains open to vehicles but general advice is not to drive through flooded roads if possible as it can damage your vehicle.

Heavy showers are forecast across the capital until around 5pm today when the rain should clear for a dry but cold evening.

The AA's advice on driving through floods and standing water is "Try to avoid standing water if you can.

"Don't drive into flood water that’s moving or more than 10cm (4 inches) deep and let approaching cars pass first.

"Drive slowly and steadily so you don’t make a bow wave and test your brakes as soon as you can afterwards.

"Fast-moving water is very powerful – take care or your car could be swept away.

"If you do get stuck in flood water, it's usually best to wait in the car and call for help rather than try to get out."
