Watch as young football players across Lanarkshire keep fit with the "toilet roll challenge" during lockdown

Young football players across Lanarkshire have been following their idols lead by taking part in the latest online craze the ‘toilet roll challenge’.

The challenge has seen various high profile players including Marcus Rashford, Lionel Messi, Angel Gomes and Patrick Roberts, attempt to do as many ‘keepie uppies’ as they can with a toilet roll instead of a football.

It was started simply as a bit of fun and to encourage people to keep busy whilst being stuck indoors during the current coronavirus pandemic and lockdown.

And players from a host of Lanarkshire’s youth football clubs have been taking part including the boys from Blantyre Vics Football Club 2007 Blues as seen in our video.

Once the challenge is complete the children then upload it to their social media page and tag their pals using the #StayAtHomeChallenge tag encouraging them that it is their turn next.

The talented youngsters from Blantyre Vics kicked off the challenge last week, after former HamiltonAccies player Jose Quitongo tagged one of the Vics players in his video.

Football legend Jose was initially tagged by his nephew, Manchester United star Angel Gomes to kick it off.

Quitongo said: “It’s just a bit of fun for people in this time of uncertainty and believe me trying to do keepie uppies with a toilet roll is not as easy as it looks - go on give it atry!”
