Watch as workers and communities rally to clap for carers across Nottinghamshire

The sound of grateful applause was once again heard across Nottinghamshire as people took time to clap for our heroes on the frontline of the pandemic.

As families stood in doorways, monuments such as Wollaton Hall, Greens Windmill and the Council House were lit in blue and green to give the weekly Thursday thank you.

This week marked the eighth evening since the display of gratitude began, as health and care workers continue their fight against coronavirus.

Workers took a moments pause at East Midlands Airport and the airport police force tweeted a video as they joined other staff for the applause.

The tweet said: "This evening we joined East Midlands Airport fire, security and staff for clap for carers to thank NHS and key workers for all that you do at this time and always.

"Disclaimer: The Director (PC2925) apologises for his camera work."

Leader of Nottingham City Council, David Mellen gave a particular mention to foster carers, as this week marks the beginning of the national Foster Care Fortnight campaign.

He said: "Tonight we'll light up our Council House again as we Clap For Carers.

"We can all join in with our neighbours across the city at 8pm to say a huge thank you to all of our care workers making such a difference during this pandemic.

"This week sees the start of Foster Care Fortnight and we’ll also be clapping for our amazing foster carers.

"We are extremely grateful to all those involved in fostering who are providing support and stability to children and young people in this uncertain and challenging time."

Today, confirmed cases of the virus in the county jumped from 1,239 to 1,265 as shown in data released by Public Health.

In  Nottingham, another six cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 579.

It comes as the nation experienced the second day of eased lockdown restrictions as announced by the Government on Sunday, May 10.
