Watch as water main bursts in Eastville leaving 3,000 homes without running water

A resident has captured the moment a burst water main sent a flood of water into a quiet Eastville street in the early hours of this morning (Thursday, July 25).

The dramatic video, recorded on a mobile phone soon after the main itself had burst, shows torrents of water pouring down Royate Hill as police vehicles arrive at the scene ahead of Bristol Water, who spent all day in the area.

It is thought that around 3,000 homes in Speedwell, Eastville, Fishponds, Horfield, Kingswood, Lockleaze, St George, Southwell, and Stapleton were affected by the burst main on the hottest day of the year so far, which saw temperatures soar above 30C.

Residents were left with low pressure or no running water at all for a significant portion of the day.

Bristol Water were handing out bottled water to residents for much of the morning, with bowsers being brought into the area later in the day in order to allow those stranded without water to fill up their own containers.

After repairing a huge crack in one of the pipes at around midday, water gradually started to make its way back into residents' homes - albeit cloudy or heavily discoloured with a brown or yellow tinge.

Bristol Water have advised that the water is safe to drink, however a bowser remains in place at Horfield Leisure Centre in order to allow residents to access cleaner water.
