A popular chicken restaurant in Musselburgh has fallen fowl to a bizarre theft after two men stole a large floor mat from inside the store.
Pepe's Piri Piri on the town's High Street was the victim of a strange crime, which saw two patrons enjoying a meal before disappearing with the mat.
The incident was highlighted yesterday on the restaurant's Facebook page with management making appeals to help identify the thieves.
CCTV footage shows one of the two men carefully rolling up the mat before leaving the premises having eaten at the establishment.
Additional footage then shows the man casually walking down the town's High Street with the mat rolled up under his arm.
It has been confirmed that the mat has since been returned.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a report of a theft from a restaurant in High Street, Musselburgh around 11.50pm on Sunday, 16 October, 2022.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances but the stolen items have since been returned.”
