Watch as supermarket worker shaves off dreadlocks to raise cash to buy protective gear for hospice

A woman from North Lanarkshire has raised over £1,500 to buy Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for a hospice amid the coronavirus crisis by shaving her hair off.

Christina Cuthbertson, 33, undertook the bold feat in aid of Kilbryde Hospice - where her sister and cousin work.

She did so live on Facebook after promising to cut off her (80) beloved dreadlocks if she was able to raise £1,000 for the hospice in East Kilbride, which survives mostly on donations.

And the total raised by Christina's will go towards buying protective equipment to keep staff and patients at the hospice safe amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Speaking to Glasgow Live, Christina, who works at ScotMid in New Stevenston as a branch supervisor, said:

"My sister has worked at the hospice for a while now and so has my cousin. I suppose it was a case of deciding whether to do it or not.

"I was excited to be doing it. The response has been amazing. The hospice is quite pleased obviously that someone is doing something. I'd imagine they might be overwhelmed".

And Christina has managed to rope in her partner to help push donations further.

"If we hit £1800 my partner is going to shave off his head and beard. I think I'm more nervous than him as I've never seen him clean-shaven and I've been with them for five years", she said.

Well done Christina, shaving your head can't have been an easy decision!
