Watch as Storm Ciara forces planes to abort landings at Manchester Airport

Storm Ciara has forced planes to abort landings at airports across the country today.

Closer to home in Liverpool, flights have been cancelled or diverted to the airport from other destinations.

Flights from Amsterdam and Jersey are cancelled from John Lennon Airport this afternoon.

While in Manchester, footage has been captured of a plane aborting after attempting to land this afternoon.

The MEN reports hundreds of passengers on the transatlantic flight  are having to travel home from Scotland - because their plane couldn’t land in Manchester.

Virgin Atlantic flight VS78, from Barbados attempted to land twice but the pilot was forced to divert due to strong winds.

A Virgin Atlantic spokesperson said: “Due to adverse weather conditions at Manchester Airport on Sunday 9th February, VS78 from Barbados was diverted to Glasgow Airport.

“Bus transfers to Manchester Airport have been arranged for customers, so that they can complete their journeys.
