Watch as speedboat man makes the most of Kilmarnock floods

An eager boatsperson has been spotted riding around in speedboat as flood waters engulfed a Kilmarnock rugby pitch.

John McDonough took the video of the thrill-seeker at a pitch on Queens Drive on Monday, August 12.

The clip shows the person whizzing around on the speedboat as the flood waters reach as high as a few metres up the playing field’s trees.

The Kilmarnock rugby pitch is just a few metres away from a river that burst its banks due to heavy rain over the course of the weekend.

Around 7,500 people have so far viewed the viral Facebook video, which has been captioned: “What a legend. Too funny man.”

The person took to the speedboat a day after the nearby River Irvine burst its banks after heavy rainfall over the course of the weekend.

More than 7,000 sandbags were deployed by in an effort to protect homes and businesses from flooding after heavy rainfall in the area.

A major incident was declared on Sunday, August 11 as the nearby River Irvine was at dangerously high levels.

Both the Asda and the Odeon on Queen’s Drive were evacuated as a result of the flood waters.
