Watch as Rangers boss Steven Gerrard's car is mobbed with fans out in force at Ibrox ahead of Scottish Premiership opener

Steven Gerrard’s car was mobbed by delirious fans as the Rangers manager made his way to Ibrox Stadium for the opening league game of the new campaign.

In scenes reminiscent of the game against St Mirren last season on the weekend the Light Blues clinched the league, supporters lined the streets around the stadium.

Supporters greeted Gerrard’s car as he approached the stadium for the game against Livingston, chanting in honour of their manager to the tune of Atomic Kitten’s Whole Again hit.

And on Edmiston Drive hundreds more Rangers fans lined the street with flags, banners and pyrotechnics.

Just over 20,000 fans will be allowed in for the match against David Martindale’s side as restrictions are slowly eased.

Last season they were locked out and missed trophy day but the club have pushed back the traditional unfurling of the league flag to September so they can share in the historic moment.

Thousands gathered outside last season when Rangers played St Mirren and Gerrard’s card was surrounded.

A victory put them on the brink of the title and the league was secured when Celtic were held to a draw at Dundee United 24 hours later.

That results in fans gathering in George Square to celebrate and it was the same for the final game of the season when Gers were presented with the Scottish Premiership trophy.
