Watch as Nicola Sturgeon comes a cropper as she is whacked on head by tennis ball at Glasgow festival

Nicola Sturgeon is used to the rough and tumble of politics but got more than she bargained for as she took part in a swingball game while out in Glasgow .

The First Minister was out at the H Lane festival in the city's Dennistoun on Saturday with former SNP MSP Anne McLaughlin when the pair decided to try their hand at swingball.

In a video clip, the SNP leader casually waits to receive serve as she munches on a treat.

Things then take a turn for the worse as McLaughlin unleashes a devastating forehand that Roger Federer would be proud of.

But before Sturgeon can react, the ball crashes into the side of her head as the onlooking crowd let out a collective gasp.

Uploading the video of her Twitter, Sturgeon said: "Great time in Dennistoun today - until the moment Anne McLaughlin whacked me on the head with a tennis ball!"

It appears the FM may have to wait for an apology from her SNP ally who obviously has no regrets about being the more powerful player.

She posted online: "I play to win these days. And I did."

The SNP pair made the most of their day out, meeting locals in the east end while posing for snaps on a Triumph motorbike and chatting with a young medieval trumpeter.
