Watch as Mancs join together in midnight Oasis singalong on New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve 2020 will go down in history as one of the strangest times in our lifetime.

Unable to celebrate with family and friends as we normally would, Mancunians and many other people around the UK were restricted to muted celebrations at home due to the imposition of Tier 4 coronavirus restrictions.

However, that didn’t stop people from enjoying the evening in true Manc style.

A video posted to Twitter in the early hours of New Year's Day by Rebecca Manson showed an ensemble of people singing Oasis classic Champagne Supernova in unison.

The 37-second video taken from a high-rise flat in Cutting Room Square, Ancoats, in Manchester city centre, focused on a group of revellers, singing and dancing to the song, whilst police officers can be seen parked up nearby.

The music was being blasted from one of the apartments in the area - and allowed for everyone in the vicinity to enjoy and celebrate the bringing in of the New Year.

In the post, Rebecca wrote: “There’s much that’s s***e about this year but this isn’t one of them.

“I’ve never felt prouder to be an honorary Manc; opened our doors at midnight to this barmy lot of legends belting their hearts out, word perfect and stupidly happy.

“Happy New Year!”

The video has been viewed almost 30,000 times and has been widely retweeted.

A number of people commented on the video, including Adam O’Shea, who wrote: “This is glorious.

“Oasis are such an important piece of the fabric of Manchester.”

Other users wrote their own lyrics, including: “So ‘20 can wait … she knows it’s too late,” in reference to Don’t Look Back in Anger - a song which had a special place in many Mancunians' hearts following the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017.
