Watch as man decides to swim across flooded sports pitches in Wetherby

A 23-year-old man braved the cold and stripped down to his swimming shorts to take a plunge in freezing cold floodwater at Wetherby Ings sports pitches this week.

The football pitches sit on the banks of the River Wharfe in Wetherby and are prone to flooding, with the recent weather leaving the fields under several feet of water.

While most people have stayed clear, Malcolm Halford has told LeedsLive that he simply couldn't resist a dip after being dared by his friends to go into the water.

The video above shows him wading through the water and leaping off railings into the water, just hours after snow fell across Yorkshire.

He has since admitted that it was "a cold decision".

"Wetherby Ings football pitch is completely underwater," he said.

Some people have criticised his actions on Facebook, but Malcolm has maintained that he only did it to bring a smile to people's faces.

"My friend dared me to do it and I thought it would be fun. I just thought it would be a bit of a laugh."
