Watch as M621 traffic brought to standstill near Elland Road after topless man leaps onto roof of bus

The M621 near Leeds had to be closed in both directions for several hours this morning after a man climbed down from a bridge onto a bus.

Emergency services were called to the motorway between junctions two and three just after 9.30am this morning, September 15, when a man climbed onto the roof of a bus from a bridge near Elland Road.

The man, who had taken off his shirt and trousers, could be seen screaming and shouting on the bridge, before he dramatically climbed over and dangled his way down and jumped onto the roof of a double decker bus.

West Yorkshire Police said that they had been called to a concern for safety, but could not comment further at this time.

Both carriageways had to be closed whilst emergency services were at the scene.

Images and videos of the incident have been shared across various social media platforms with eyewitnesses describing how the dramatic moment unfolded.

Josh Milton had seen the man on the bridge shouting before he had eventually climbed over and jumped onto the bus.

Josh said: "It wasn't funny at all and was very scary. I thought he was going to jump - I was praying that he wasn't going to do it as I drove past and then was worried on the drive home.

"I cannot believe he went and jumped on a bus!"

Eve Bedford was one of the many drivers who had been stuck in the congestion amidst the incident as she saw the man continuing to shout at police whilst he was on top of the vehicle.

She said: "I didn't see it happen, but I did see him on top of the bus.

"I don't know what happened, but there was so many police and emergency services around him telling him to come down, but he was very angry.

"Thank the lord that the bus driver didn't carry on driving when he jumped on!"

Whilst Sandra Keen described the whole incident as 'terrifying'.

She said: "It really was awful to see. The man was very irate and didn't look like he was going to listen to police asking him to come down.

"I got back into my car, because it really was terrifying. I hope he is okay."

The carriageways have now been cleared and the motorway open in both directions, although traffic was still extremely heavy in the area for a while after the incident cleared.
