Watch as hundreds turn out for special tribute in memory of murdered Kilmarnock mum and daughter

The people of Kilmarnock turned out in their hundreds to pay tribute to a murdered mum and her daughter tonight.

A town still in mourning one week after Emma Robertson Coupland and her daughter Nicole Anderson were killed; residents showed solidarity with the family that has been devastated by last Thursday's tragic events.

It's understood that NHS cleaner Emma, 39, died after being attacked by her ex-partner Steven Robertson at Crosshouse Hospital last Thursday night.

Twenty minutes later, Emma's daughter, Nicole, 24, died after being stabbed by Robertson on Portland Street.

And at 8.30pm, Robertson, 40, was found dead after his car crashed into a tree on the C50, between the B7036 and A76 near Ochiltree.

But this evening, friends and family remembered Emma and Nicole with a series of fitting tributes.

At the grass next to Bellfield Bowling Club, a slide show of pictures played alongside some poignant music.

And at the end of the emotional tribute there was a special video sent from a professional singer in London who belted out Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

Mourners then released pink and purple balloons – Emma and Nicole's favourite colours – into the sky where the fading sun had created a beautiful light show of its own.

Adele Wallace, who captured some of the tributes this evening on video, said: "It's like no release I've ever been to. They all done them both proud. It was absolutely beautiful."

The emotional scenes played out as £25,000 was raised to pay for Emma and Nicole's funerals.
