Watch as great white shark makes mincemeat out of chum bag

The ferocity of a large great white shark was on full display Tuesday in the Florida Keys when the massive predator went after a chum bag hanging from a commercial fisherman’s boat.

The accompanying footage shows the adult white shark, said to measure 16-17 feet, using its jaws and muscle to relentlessly tear into a net-constructed bag full of fish parts as Capt. Carter Bates and his girlfriend, Suzy Trumbo, watched in awe.

Trumbo, 44, can be heard repeatedly exclaiming, “Oh my god!” during the incredibly close encounter.

She told the Miami Herald, “I’ve never seen anything like this before.”

Bates, 37, explained that he and Trumbo had been fishing for snapper that morning, and using the 100-pound chum block as an attractant. The shark circled the 36-foot boat for about three hours before making its move.

The shark had no interest in the fish being caught, Bates told the Miami Herald,  adding, “It only wanted the chum block.”
