Watch as firefighters rush to tackle blaze at petrol station

Six fire engines were called to a fire at a petrol station in Bury this morning.

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire at a shop unit of a petrol station on Bury Road in Radcliffe at around 9.30am on Sunday (November 21).

The incident led to Bury Road being closed in both directions while fire crews attended to the fire.

Video footage saw fire engines racing to tackle the blaze, while smoke plummeted out of the petrol station building.

Eye-witnesses at the scene said the fire broke out at the petrol station shop.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reels and a hose jet to extinguish the fire.

There were no casualties during the incident.

Bury Road was closed for around three hours, before re-opening shortly before 12.30pm.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At 9.30am this morning (Sunday 21 November) firefighters were called to reports of a fire involving the shop unit of a petrol station on Bury Road, Radcliffe.

“Six fire engines from Bury, Bolton, Broughton, Farnworth and Whitefield fire stations, plus an Aerial Platform appliance from Manchester Central, arrived quickly at the scene.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reels and a hose jet to extinguish the fire, before helping to make the scene safe.”

Fire Chief Dave Roach said: "The crew have worked really hard to lead everybody in the Morrison's shop to safety and put the fire out quickly."

Area Manager Ben Levy added: “Thanks to the swift action of our control room operators and fire officers at the scene, the impact of this fire was limited to the building."
